Privacy policy

This is an English translation for your convenience. The German version (Datenschutzerklärung) is the legally binding one.

2. General

I take the protection of your data seriously. This website has no contact form and no user accounts. No cookies are set for advertising or analytics. For simple visitor statistics without cookies I use Cloudflare Web Analytics (see section 3). You can sign up for the newsletter voluntarily once it starts (see section 5).

I run this website from Switzerland. That's why the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) applies. Because the site is also aimed at readers in the EU, I also comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

3. Hosting, server log files and visitor statistics

This website is hosted by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you open the site, Cloudflare automatically processes technical data that your browser sends (for example IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser type). This is necessary to deliver the website securely and reliably. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a working service).

There is a data processing agreement with Cloudflare under Art. 28 GDPR. Data may be transferred to the USA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. For this framework the European Commission has found an adequate level of data protection (Art. 45 GDPR). More about this in Cloudflare's privacy policy.

For simple visitor statistics I use Cloudflare Web Analytics. For this, your browser loads a small script from Cloudflare (static.cloudflareinsights.com) when you open the site. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and creates no profile of you. I only see aggregated numbers, for example how often a page was viewed, which page visitors came from, from which country and with which browser. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in improving the service).

4. Fonts

The fonts on this website (Bricolage Grotesque and Figtree) are stored directly on this server. When you open the site, no connection is made to Google or any other font provider.

Newsletter sign-up is not open yet. If you already enter your email address in the field, it is neither stored nor transmitted.

As soon as the newsletter starts, I will add here how sign-up works (with a confirmation email, known as double opt-in) and which mailing service I use. The legal basis will then be your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.

6. Affiliate links (Amazon Associates programme)

This website takes part in the Amazon EU Associates programme (amazon.de and amazon.co.uk). Links to Amazon marked with an asterisk (*) are included on the website. A connection to Amazon is only made when you click such a link. Amazon may then set cookies to track that the purchase came via this website. The provider is Amazon Europe Core S.à r.l., 38 avenue John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg. You can find more information in Amazon's privacy notice. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

7. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing of your data, to data portability and to object (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. In Switzerland this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the supervisory authority in your country.
