Cordless vacuum

A light vacuum cleaner without a cable. It hangs on the wall or stands in its charging station, charged, and in one move you turn it into a handheld vacuum.

No cable, no re-plugging, no heavy vacuum you first have to drag out of the cupboard. You simply take it off the wall and start vacuuming, even if it's just the crumbs under the dining table. As a handheld you can use it on the sofa, the stairs and in the car.

My experience
“If you have a robot vacuum, you only need a cordless vacuum very rarely anyway. A cheap model is enough for that. I have the Bulelink Zenith G10, for example, and I'm very happy with it.”

What it takes off your hands

How much effort you save
Before
With a cordless vacuum
Corded vacuum
  • Get the heavy vacuum out of the cupboard
  • Plug it in, re-plug it in every room
  • Carry everything up for the stairs
With a cordless vacuum
  • Take it off the wall and start vacuuming
  • No cable, no re-plugging
  • As a handheld for the sofa, stairs and car
Right for you if …
  • You often vacuum in between, for example crumbs or pet hair
  • You have stairs or several floors
  • You want to get the sofa and car clean quickly too, or a robot vacuum is too expensive for you right now
To be honest
  • The battery life manufacturers state usually applies to the lowest setting. On the highest setting it's often only 10 to 15 minutes. If you have a large home, choose a model with a second battery
  • The dust container is small, usually under a litre. Emptying it gets a bit dusty
  • After a few years the battery weakens, and a new one costs extra. Make sure replacement batteries are available

Bulelink Zenith G10

  • Good at testit.de (grade 2.4, April 2026)
  • In the test, the battery lasted about an hour on the lowest setting
  • You can take the battery out
  • Stands up on its own, so you don't need a wall bracket

My tip if you already have a robot vacuum. I use it myself, more on that under “My experience”.

To be honest

At testit.de, hair got wrapped around the roller and dirt was left along the edges.

Bosch Unlimited 10 (BBS1041GGB)

  • The version with a second battery (BTS1042WAC) won the test at Stiftung Warentest, Germany's best-known consumer tester (grade 2.2, issue 2/2026)
  • One exchangeable battery, according to the manufacturer up to 80 minutes on the lowest setting
  • Charges in about an hour with the quick charger
  • Compresses the dust in the container, so you empty it less often

For houses with several floors and households with pets.

To be honest

Stiftung Warentest tested the BTS1042WAC version, which comes with a second battery. Amazon UK sells the Unlimited 10 with one battery. At Which?, it lasted about 1 hour 15 minutes on the lowest setting.

Questions and answers

Will it replace my normal vacuum cleaner?

A good one does, especially on hard floors and carpets that aren't too thick. According to Stiftung Warentest, the best cordless vacuums keep up with classic vacuum cleaners. But not all of them are good: in the test in issue 2/2026, some models were only adequate or even poor.

How long does the battery last?

What manufacturers state usually applies to the lowest setting. On the highest setting it's often only 10 to 15 minutes. The battery of the Bosch Unlimited 10 can be swapped, so with a second one you can vacuum twice as long.

How do I empty the dust container?

Hold it over the bin and open the container, and the dust falls out. It gets a bit dusty. If you're allergic to house dust, it's best to empty it outside or let someone else do it.

Can it handle pet hair?

Not all equally well. At Stiftung Warentest, the Bosch Unlimited 10, the two Miele models and the Rowenta X-Force Flex 13.60 reliably removed pet hair, while others struggled. If long hair wraps around the brush, you cut it open and pull it off.

Are there any that mop at the same time?

Yes, so-called wet and dry vacuums, for example from Tineco or Dreame. They vacuum and mop at the same time and are worth it with lots of hard floors. But if you don't want to do anything yourself any more, take a look at the robot vacuum. Since I've had one, I don't vacuum myself any more.

How long does a vacuum like this last?

Usually the battery is the first thing to weaken, often after a few years. So make sure you can replace it and that replacement batteries are available. Bosch even gives a ten-year guarantee on the motor of the Unlimited 10.
